Pete Doherty

Academy, Manchester

May 18th 2008

His first post-prison show was not dissimilar to the great celebratory shows of his pre-nick ones. He still looks like an extra from a 50's British gangster flick, black suit, trilby and wide boy mannerisms and still leaves you wanting more.

"East Of Eden", opens the set and is met with wld appreciation from the throng of Dohertymanics attending, great versions of Libertines classics ‘Up The Bracket’ and ‘What a Waster’ also get a showing and are similarly received! The band sound tight, but they still appear to be the man's backing band, while Pete stumbles and sometimes even mumbles the band remain there for him.

By the time we get to ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ the room is in full voice, and no-one could claim that PD doesn't put on a great, if at times, perplexing show. For the fans here tonight though, it's enough to see him back on stage and out of the tabs' and media glare.
