They start as they mean to go on, straight to the front of the stage with an all guns blazing 'Gift Of Love'. The first half of the set was made up mainly of tracks from new album 'Neptune' highlights included 'This ship was built to last' and 'Dog Roses'.
As one of the hardest working live acts in the country, The Duke Spirit have crafted their live show into a super tight group sound. They play with an effort and enthusiasm that has seemed to be lost in today’s corporate sponsored music scene. When guitarist Luke Ford storms to the front of the stage or repairs to its edges to play his trademark sleazy guitar precariously on his amp, the heart of the bands sound is revealed.
The face and focus of the band though is vocalist Liela Moss, through her flailing tambourine and rock n roll high kicks she comes across as a 21st century Debbie Harry. Despite her admission that the bands fitness is not all it should be, the energy levels remain high throughout the set, which culminates with a rousing version of 2005 single 'Love is an unfamiliar name'.
The band return for two final numbers before heading off into the night, but not without leaving us with the classic 'Cuts across the land'. Hopefully they will soon return.
